Religious Education at Assumption

Welcome to our growing parish! Our mission is to support families in the faith formation of their children. Our program is inclusive and open to children of all educational backgrounds and ability levels.

Our classes meet on Sundays at 10 am from September to May. Classes gather in Father Bernard Hall, the brick building to the left of the church. Registration is held in August.

Assumption is unique in offering all three levels of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. This approach to the religious formation of children is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the Church, and Montessori principles.

CGS gives children a joyful study of God’s love for us, His plan for salvation, and the rich life of the Church. The atrium is a prepared environment where a child’s work becomes prayer; it is their response to the Good News.

Current classes include:

Ages 3 - 6 Level One atrium
Ages 6-9 Level Two atrium
Ages 9-12 Level Three atrium Confirmation class
Apologetics book group for ages 14+

We are always looking for catechists and assistants, so please reach out if you are interested in becoming part of this great work!

Questions?

Please contact the Director of Religious Education, Amber Cuayo at  ambercuayo@gmail.com.

Sacramental Preparation

Children prepare for the sacraments through our religious education program. However, children may also receive the sacraments at Assumption if they choose to prepare at a Catholic school or Catholic homeschool curriculum.

All candidates must contact the Director of Religious Education to be placed on our list and submit a baptismal certificate one month prior to the sacrament.

First Reconciliation will be on an individual basis, whenever a child shows readiness (usually age 7+) and knows the Act of Contrition. Please note that there is not a group event for this sacrament.

First Communion for children 8+ will be held on Corpus Christi Sunday, at all Masses.

There will be a Corpus Christi procession outdoors between the 8:30 and 11:00 Masses.

Confirmation with Bishop Spalding will be held according to the Bishop's schedule. In this diocese, the age for confirmation is 13.

Safe Environment

Assumption follows all diocesan practices for Safe Environment, including volunteers who have been trained and background checked. Circle of Grace lessons are provided to every family who is interested in this virtue-based safety program.
