Background
Assumption is a diocesan parish located in the Germantown section of downtown Nashville which, for many years now, has been home to Nashville's Traditional Latin Mass community. The Church of the Assumption has permission to celebrate the sacraments and sacramentals according to the Roman Ritual of the usus antiquior and as a territorial parish also provides the faithful with access to the Mass and sacraments celebrated according to the liturgy promulgated by Saints Paul VI and John Paul II.
Bishop Spalding designated the Church of the Assumption as a stably-assigned location where the faithful may gather on any day of the year for the celebration of Mass according to the liturgical books in use prior to the reform of 1970, naming Father S.B. Price, pastor of the Church of the Assumption, as his delegate entrusted with overseeing these celebrations and the pastoral care of these groups of the faithful. Please see the
letter of Bishop Spalding for more information.

We are also home to the Syro-Malabar
Community of Nashville, who celebrate the Eucharist according to the East Syriac rite n the Malayalam language.
We believe this remarkable liturgical diversity is a great enrichment of the life of the church in Germantown.
