The schola cantorum at the Church of the Assumption is open to all men and boys beginning at age 16. The schola is under the direction of Dr. Nancy Sutton, director of sacred music, and is responsible for preparing the music for our services; members learn the Church’s ancient chants as well as gain confidence and proficiency in reading traditional Gregorian notation.
The schola sings every Sunday for the 10:00 AM High Mass, plus occasional weekday evening High Masses (holy days, other first-class feasts, and the Triduum in particular) as well as Vespers at 6:00 PM on Sundays. Rehearsals are normally on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM in Buddeke House; members communicate through a group chat on the My Parish App, where changes to the schedule will be announced as needed.
